What is lorem ipsum and why use it?

Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin used as filler so that people judge layout, typography and spacing instead of reading the words. Its source is a passage from De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum, a work by the Roman author Cicero written in 45 BC; printers began reusing mangled pieces of it as dummy text centuries ago and it became the default in desktop publishing and web design. Because the words are meaningless, nobody gets distracted debating the copy while you review a mockup.

What exactly this generator produces

• Words — the first words always follow the classic order (lorem, ipsum, dolor, sit, amet…), so a words result is always the same sequence: the first N words of the standard 62-word vocabulary, which is why the Amount field stops at 50. The result starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. Use sentences or paragraphs when you want variety.
• Sentences — the first sentence is always the standard opener, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.” (19 words). Every later sentence is random and between 8 and 16 words long.
• Paragraphs — each has 4 to 7 sentences, separated from the next by a blank line. The first paragraph opens with the standard sentence; the others are fully random, so a paragraph averages roughly 60–70 words and 50 paragraphs give you around 3,000–3,500 words.

The vocabulary is the 62 words of the traditional passage, drawn at random, so repeated clicks give different text. The generator does not insert commas inside its random sentences, which keeps line lengths easy to predict but means the rhythm is flatter than real prose.

Choosing the right amount for the job

• Headlines and buttons: 2–6 words. Real headlines are short, so a 30-word placeholder will hide overflow problems.
• Card descriptions and captions: 1–2 sentences, around 20–35 words.
• Article bodies: 3–6 paragraphs shows how line height, paragraph spacing and column width feel when scanned.
• Testing limits: generate a long block and a very short one. Layouts break on the extremes, not on the average.

Tips for designers, developers and writers

• Design with realistic lengths. A mockup full of tidy, equal-length paragraphs hides what happens when a real product name wraps onto three lines. Mix short and long blocks.
• Check readability, not just fit. A comfortable line is roughly 45–75 characters, so use the character counter to test your column width.
• Mark placeholder text clearly in staging sites. Search engines index staging pages that are left open, and filler left in production looks careless. Search your project for “lorem ipsum” before launch.
• Be careful with non-Latin audiences. Latin filler will not reveal font, spacing or line-break problems for Korean, Arabic or Hindi layouts; test with real sample text in those languages.

Is it private and safe?

Yes. The text is built by plain JavaScript in your browser and no request is made while generating, so nothing is uploaded, stored or logged. You do not need an account.
